Suggestions for use

RESITAN DM

very versatile acrylic retanning resin

The product explained by a few technicians who have studied its best applications on different types of leather, according to final destination

The product we are taking in consideration is RESITAN DM, a retanning resin of acrylic nature that is very versatile in use. Depending on the percentage of use and its positioning in the formula, we can obtain different results.

Resitan DM gives very good results on leathers characterised by extremely full and gummy touch, and leaves the grain very flat and soft in the appearance.

MAURO GUARISO – HEADQUARTERS IN MILAN

Smooth leathers for footwear

I suggest to use Resitan DM in new float after neutralization, possibly followed by a tannin or dicyandiamide resin, depending on how firm the article shall be. The use of tannin is direct for soft articles, while when using a resin like Resitan 77 you will obtain firm articles for footwear.

Leathers for drummed articles for footwear and handbags

In this case I suggest to use Resitan DM in neutralization float or new float before fatliquoring. It’s important that it is not followed immediately by too high an amount of resins and retanning agents, because the leather might become difficult to drum. The best procedure is: Resitan DM followed by fatliquor and then by tannins.

Upholstery leathers

Resitan DM can also be suggested to manufacture firm or soft upholstery articles.

Resitan DM should be used in the same float as fatliquoring, without distinction before or after the fatliquor. According to my experience, when there are additions of tannins or powder resins immediately after the fatliquor and in the same float, the leather will swell too much and hardening will be possible. Alone, as anionic retanning agent, Resitan DM is enough to give the fullness normally required for upholstery leathers.

The standard procedure I suggest to follow is:
- chrome retanning;
- neutralization;
- washing;
- 5 – 8% Resitan DM;
- 10 – 12% blend of fatliquors;
- 2% Pellitan W (do not exceed with anionic retanning agents because leathers may become too full).

Garment leathers

Resitan DM can be used in all garment leathers when full articles characterised by good grain firmness are required. The product is to be used after fatliquoring, followed by small amounts of soft tannin (e.g. Pellitan NS).

PAOLO SOLDA’ – VENETO BRANCH

Our application experiences on Resitan DM are directed above all to those articles that require vacuum drying.

We have discovered that grain firmness and softness are higher than with acrylic resins, and such characteristics are not available on the market by now.

In my opinion Resitan DM is particularly suitable for drummed articles, when small and regular grain is required.

I think that Resitan DM is really an innovative and interesting resin: we are already testing it with good results on frame-dried articles.

MICHELE GIACONI – TOSCANA BRANCH

Finally something that was missing in our range, a resin that produces firm and gummy full grain leathers, which can become soft and firm through the aid of good fatliquors.

All you need is good chrome retanning, a good syntan to be used with it and a good blend of fatliquors.

We have been able to make firm even leathers destined for upholstery with which soft and firm drummed footwear was to be produced. Now, when a customer demands us a very soft, elastic but firm leather we know who can help us.

RESITAN DM - Retanning agent

Chemico-physical characteristics
Appearance: amber-coloured liquid
Composition: acrylic copolymer
pH 10%: approximately 6
Active matter: approximately 20%
Charge: anionic
Light-fastness: good

Application

Resitan DM is an anionic, fulling retanning resin which can be used in the retanning of wet blues presenting very loose dermal structure and therefore empty and wide-bellied.

Resitan DM guarantees good fullness, and the manufactured leathers present no ageing where bent.

Leathers retanned with Resitan DM are easily drummable and have small and uniform grain pattern.
