Blend of fatliquors for all types of leather

This time we focus on the use of three fatliquors by Repico in blend; these fatliquors are normally used for different types of proposed articles.

They have been sold for a number of years with very good results achieved on large-sized cow hides and on calf and sheep skins.

Below there are the technical data sheet of these three fatliquors, which highlight some particular characteristics of each them.

• LEDEROIL C
• Highly-concentrated sulphited fatliquor, odourless and very stable to electrolytes.
• REPLICKER SOFT
• Synthetic fatliquor providing a degree of softness and fullness that is hardly achievable with the traditional fatliquors.
• REPLICKER RC1
• Evolution of lecithin-based fatliquors.

We report the opinions of some technicians of ours who have developed a good knowledge on these fatliquors.

VENETO

From the practical experience in tannery, Paolo Soldŗ and Renzo Fracca, in co-operation with Franco Cavaliere, were able to identify a balanced blend of retanning fatliquors among the ones proposed by Repico.

“Our experience drives us to say that these fatliquors give very good results on upholstery leathers as well as on garment leather. Depending on the requested article, we suggest to change the percentages of use of the three products. Below we report a few examples of application. We suggest to use CORIAMIN 44 in final phase, in new float, because it leaves a silky touch and noticeably increases colour depth without changing dyeing characteristics”.

STEFANO BIANCO

I use LEDEROIL C when I have to soften or reproduce drummed articles with marked grain.

Thanks to its high stability and properties, the product can be used also in different garment articles.

REPLICKER SOFT is a fundamental fatliquor when I have to reproduce very soft and light-weight articles, in particular on low-thick leathers, like hairsheep skin for garment; an excess of quantity in use would not give problems of looseness and leathers would not get heavier.

REPLICKER SOFT is very popular as the main fatliquor for “shearling” leathers, because it provides a warm and silky touch, with low specific weight, hardly reproducible with other types of fatliquor.

REPLICKER RC1 is a new entry in our range and, though I haven’t tried it in detail yet, the product has already given very good results in pre-fatliquoring phase in neutralization (thanks also to its good stability to electrolytes), in the production of velour splits, where it allows to obtain a typical silky effect, as well as in glove-type soft nappa article.

MAURO GUARISO

SLEDEROIL C is a very versatile fatliquor with characteristics of very good softness, good fullness, excellent resistance to electrolytes. Its possibility of use is very wide and can be utilised in tanning, chrome retanning, neutralization or in the main fatliquor.

It is particularly recommended for:
- upholstery, in amounts from 2% to 8%;
- garment, 2/5%;
- in footwear articles, it is used in the main fatliquoring blend to enrich the emulsion.

REPLICKER SOFT is a synthetic fatliquor that makes leathers extremely soft, with a very low specific weight. The product is particularly recommended for garment, upholstery and footwear, any time a particular softness is required. It is normally used in the main fatliquor or after neutralization auxiliaries.

REPLICKER RC1 is a natural synthetic fatliquor originally developed to give full and waxy touch; later trials revealed that the product has better performances and is more versatile than the scope it was developed for, and has become a relatively universal fatliquor that can be used on all articles.

- Garment, in amounts of 1/4% in the main fatliquor or in neutralization;
- in upholstery, in amount of 2/6%;
- in footwear it is used as auxiliary of the main fatliquor, to achieve a fuller and waxier touch.
